The Day Stars Fall

I was very surprise to hear on the news yesterday that Farrah Fawcett has lost her battle with cancer. Even though it was an expected outcome in her journey, anyone would still be to shock and surprise when a star like her dies. Her's was a very public battle and struggle, and everyone was really sad about it.
I was at work when I was still thinking about Farrah and her role in Charlie's Angels; when I read on the online news that Michael Jackson was rushed to the UCLA hospital. I didn't think that it was really bad, since hearing about him being rushed to a hospital was really getting common now. A couple of hours later, I viewed the news again, and I was really shocked and nearly in tears to see that Michael Jackson has already died.
I started to get hooked on the news. I watched and read videos and articles from CNN. It was a very sureal news. I probably felt the same shock when I saw the news of the 9/11 attacks. Who would think that a legend like Michael Jackson would die so suddenly? Even his own critics were probably dumbfounded by this sad sad news.
A few people were already mourning the death of Farrah that day, and all of a sudden the king of pop is gone too. It's just a day that a couple of big stars fell.

The Right Place for Home

When considering the right place for a home, I always think that the environment plays a big part in the decision. The environment includes considering the neighborhood, and the weather of the place. I'm always worried about a place which is too cold or too hot. I've come from a country always battered by storms, and the main thing about our home is the humidity. I've always wished that I had a home like the homes in Scottsdale because the weather there is just perfect. I've heard that homes there are just in the right place, but for me it is the right place for home.

In the Middle of a Recession

The world has fallen into a recession, and I never thought that we could be affected by it in a big way. I've always thought that it would be alright soon. The recession has hit hard in the US, and proof it was the recent news that we've gotten about some of our colleagues.
With the news, we are just a bit relieved and worried at the same time. We are relieved that we are safe from the effects of this recession in the US. We are also worried because we wouldn't be expecting any changes in our situation. We probably won't get any increases and bonuses this year. This is not actually very good for me since I've been struggling lately with my finances. All I can say is that we're just surviving. Hopefully, a gleam of light is in the horizon for us.

I am not a fan of bid sites out there, but I am a big fan of gadgets. I would love to get my hands on the latest and hippest things out there. But off course, money is always an issue. In this world now a days you can't get anything for free. If it is advertised as free it might be a scam.
It's a good thing that we have the online bid sites. They make acquiring gadgets a bit more fun and exciting, and whole lot cheaper than buying directly from electronic stores. The concept of auction bargin ipod xbox cheap PS3 is just very appealing to me. Specially for the later, I have been really craving for it.

Movies to Watch Out For

It's been a while since I've watched a blockbuster in the movies. I admit that I wish I could just watch them myself, but I always have to consider my family when watching movies. The last 2 movies that I've seen were a chick flick with my wife, and an animated film with the kids. I appreciated the movies, but I guess I am more of a science fiction or block buster movie goer. There have been several movies lately that I have missed.
I was not able to see the Watchmen. I also missed watching Underworld 3. Recently, I wanted to watch X-Men origins: Wolverine, and the new and hipper version of Star Trek. I even missed seeing Dragon Ball Evolution. The reviews might have been bad, but it's still a big adaptation of my favorite anime series.
At this rate I could miss the next big movies: Angels and Demons, GI Joe, Transformers 2, and even Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Oops, maybe the last two not so much. I might be able to watch those with the kids.

I have been hanging around the Internet for quite some time now, and I admit that I started here because of online games. I also got hooked with chat, but my first love here was the online multiplayer arena. I have seen a few types of games: puzzles, adventure, and even role playing. With an abundance of new online gaming arenas out there, it's no wonder people get hook on the Internet.
There are have been recent revolutions in the online gaming circle. Usually, games are about fantasies, adventure, and fighting. No one has ever dared to create an arena where the basis are things in the real world. It would be rare to see such games. I was surprised and excited to find a virtual stock market arena. It is a place on the Net where you can learn to trade in the stock market, and even get a chance to compete for prizes. It has a more professional feel to it, and would surely be a big help to gain knowledge about the stock market without taking the risk of getting it it first.

Party for my Baby

It was my baby's birthday last Friday, and I had to pull all the stops to give her a party. We had invited a few friends over for dinner the next day. We couldn't do on a Friday night of course. I brought out my inner chef to cook a feast for a few Filipino friends, and few other friends here. My menu was simple, but I guess it was all right.
On my menu, I had Filipino style spaghetti, Filipino style Chicken Macaroni salad, special Fried Chicken, and Kaldereta (a Filipino Beef Stew). I was quite pleased with what I prepared, and considering the fact that I spent the whole of Saturday morning preparing it. A few of the guests also brought a few things on the table, and they were a hit too. I had the best compliment ever about my cooking that night. Our Russian friend told me that the Kalderata I prepared tasted exactly like her grandmothers stew. What were the odds of that?
Off course, at the end of the day, I did all that for my Baby. It was her time to celebrate, and I saw that she really enjoyed her day. She was with both friends and family.

I'm also fond of war games. Back when I was little, we use to have fun with water guns and enjoy silly war games. When I grew up, I've always wanted something even more. Computer games that offer war game simulations are always a treat; but they lack the fun of running around for real. When you are in a war game scenario, you get to feel the thrill of the chase and the hunt more.
It's a good thing that now a days, I have paintball to satisfy my cravings for action. It's a fun and safe environment to enjoy war game scenarios. The Start of the Year

Happy New Year everyone!!! It's finally 2009, and we all look forward to a whole new set of challenges for this year. For me, it's back to work as usual; and again spending less time with the family. I least, I had a good 2 week break spent on doing a lot of things with my wife and kids.
We weren't able to plan for a vacation away from home this year, so we just went around Melbourne and checked out the places that they haven't been to. The kids are still on school holidays, so it's a bit chaotic for my Baby. But I know she'll manage.
Anyways, this is just a short update to usher in the New Year. I hope I can spend more time blogging; but work has really been keeping me away from it. Hopefully, this 2009 I can do a lot more posts than I did in 2008.

Every now and then I'd also do some scrapping with pictures that I've taken. Of course they would be of my kids and my wife. And most often than now, the final product ends up to be my new wall paper on my work computer.

When I went on to start blogging, I've always been undecided with either going for the free hosting services available or would I establish myself in as a unique individual with my on domain name. Little Big Thing

With the recent announcement of NAMCO to go for the multi Next Gen Console market with Tekken; I have tried to turn my attention to other factors that would make me go either way. Of course the choices are a PS3 or an Xbox 360. Can't really afford both, so I need to choose wisely.
I've heard and read about the pros and cons on both sides; and frankly, Tekken 6 was the only driving factor for me back then. I wouldn't really care about the other games, since my kids are content with the Wii; I needed to have something for my own. As a serious gamer, I find a lack of serious titles to go on with the Wii. It's probably just the difference in game play, since the Wii is more of a family or group oriented console. I've recently tried the new NBA Live 2009 on the Wii, and I got really bored with it. I may come back to it next time, but the odd thing is that I enjoy the Monkey Ball Banana Blitz game over it.
Anyways, I've recently caught a glimpse of something that would potentially tip me back to the PS3. Aside from the recent article that I read about ease of memory upgrade for the PS3, I also got curious about the new exclusive title Little Big Planet. It's a unique and new game where you can immerse yourself in your own world. You define the rules, and you define the gameplay. This I find interesting in that it could so much fun. Aside from a very high rating from IGN, this game looks like a brand new classic in the making. I'm now convinced that I would definitely be getting a PS3 soon.

Tekken 360???

I've been thinking of late to grab my very own PS3 because of 2 major factors. One factor was to have a nice Blu-ray player. As PS3 is a next generation game console, I had wanted to hop into the craze. It's been a while since I've thought of getting one for myself.
You see, I already have a Wii; but it's not really what you would call a next-gen console. Besides the kids are the ones enjoying it more than me. The games that we have are really for family fun. I tried to satisfy my thirst for fighting games with the Bleach game, but it wasn't that good for me. I am a more serious Tekken fan, and it's one of those things that make me decide to go for a console. I actually bought my second PS2 last time for Tekken 5, but eventually given it up to my siblings.
Anyways, when the news about a Tekken 6 version for the Xbox 360 came out, I was deeply saddened. The fact that Tekken has stayed exclusive with Sony's Playstations (except for Tekken GBA) has made me stick to the side of the PS3 on any argument about next-gen consoles. When they first announced that Tekken was one of the titles exclusive to the PS3, I was already bent on getting one for myself. But of course, when Namco had delays with releasing the much awaited game; I just put my plans on hold for a while.
I was already thinking of getting a PS3 a few weeks back, for the simple reason that the new Soul Caliber game came out. Of course, it came out for both the 360 and PS3; but it was a choice between Darth Vader on the PS3 and Yoda on the 360. I would pick the cool bad guy anytime.
Anyways, I guess with Tekken it's not going to be a simple choice. I'm gonna have to find more reasons to keep my choice. I'll just have to wait and see some more.

A New Tech-Toy for Me?

Well, it's really a tech-toy, but not for me. My wife had to started a hobby of taking pictures of the kids. You see, we have a park near by and it's a very nice place to be taking pictures. So we've finally decided to get a better camera. Not that our previous camera was not a good one. In fact it hasn't been 2 years since we got it; and it's a decent 8 megapixel waterproof Optio.
But I guess it's time for a DLSR, and so I've decided to get us the new Canon EOS 1000D. It's not a top of the range DLSR, but off course we need something to begin with. For starters, it is a newer entry-level DLSR; and I've read good reviews about it. At first, I was thinking about getting the 450D. But my wife would have to use it more often while at home, so we got the lighter 1000D.
Here is a run down of some of the specifications that this new baby boast: 10.1 Mega pixels CMOS sensor, 3888 x 2592 image size, Auto ISO adjust, Auto lighting optimizer, and with Live view. Of course, there are more technical things that can be discussed about it; but their really just the boring bits.

All I can add is that this baby packs a hell lot more image quality than our old Pentax. And off course it is a DLSR, so the challenge is be creative with your shots. It's something that I've wanted to try for quite a long time. But for now, I leave the playing around with this new tech-toy to my baby.

A New Jersey Break

What comes to mind, when you think of New Jersey? I personally think of a buzzing city, and busy streets. But all of us will be surprised but what the city of New Jersey itself can offer. If you're looking at a family beach vacation and soak up a little water fun for your family. But why just go to the beach, and just see the boring sand? I know it's fun to be at the beach, but it's better to be at a water theme park.
New Jersey has Morey's Piers, and is the world's biggest amusement piers. The definition of fun here is not just with rides; but with nice treats of water fun. So it combines the fun at the beach and the excitement of New Jersey attractions that satisfies the thrill seekers. This place has a party atmosphere too, so it will also be cool for the party goers.

The Kid's New Tech Toy

I've finally purchased a computer for my kids. I was originally thinking about a getting them an iMac, but I guess it was just too expensive and I probably won't get have much power. And the other reason was that I wasn't really a big Mac fan.
Anyways, I got the PC from a friend, who runs a small technology business. I think he game me a pretty good deal for it. I pretty much asked for the features of this PC, and I can say that it's much more powerful than even my new Dell Latitude D630 (this is my work machine off course).
Here are some of the specs that I had included in their PC:
Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO E7300.
Motherboard: P35 NEO-F LGA775 ATX.
RAM: 2GB 667MHZ DDR2 (KIngston).
Hard Drive: 500 GB SATA.
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GF8500GT PCI-E 512MB.

And some added features: 802.11G 54MBS Wireless PCI Card, and Logitech Cordless Deskstop (Keyboard and Mouse).
Now the kids are actually enjoying their new Tech Toy, and even getting connected on the Internet.

Talent Runs in the Family

I am really very proud of my kids, eventhough most often they cause me headaches. You see, it's a bit stressful to be a father of 3 very active young boys. Yes, I have three sons: a 7-year old, a 5-year old, and a 2-year old. Believe me when I say that they are more than a handful.
Anyways, going back to my story. I am a proud father of these 3 kids, and not because they're behave or anything; but they're really talented. All three of them can sing well, especially my 5-year old son Jarred, and Jover (7-year old) has been praised by his music teacher at school. The most surprising of all, is MJ (2 years old). At his very young age, he can already follow songs that he hears playing on his mother's notebook. Take note, MJ doesn't speak well yet. We're just waiting for the day for him to start speaking properly; and maybe he can sing well too. He loves to follow singing Eternal Flame, and the Power of Love.

Sounds Great

I am a believer of technology, and how it can improve our lives. I've always been facinated by the improvements that have occured in computers lately. I am amazed by the fact that you can pretty much do anything in computers. Somethings that you could only do in studios or a sound recorder is now possible in a computer. Software is now available that will give you great sounds that can be recorded from pretty much any source.

Imagine the possibilities of being able to mix you own music for a train ride, or even compose your own tracks to entertain others. There is an endless stream of things that can be managed in software now a days. Even video editing is possible in software.

A Spin into the Olympics 2008

I often have a very Nationalistic view into sports. Well, in Philippine sports that is. Aside from the usual craving for the National Basketball Association, and maybe some Aussie rules footy (Go Cats!!!); I've got a very dear appreciation for my country's sports.
I fancy the Philippine Team (in any sport: especially Basketball, boxing, and more) that represents the Nation's pride in International competition. I was there when the PBA powered basketball team tried to get a slot in the recent Beijing Olympics. I am always there when Manny and the other International boxers compete in Vegas.
But recently, I've been very disappointed with the Philippine team representing in the Beijing Olympics. I'm saddened by the fact that we could only manage less than 2 handfuls of athletes to compete this year. We use to be able to field a handful of boxers, and now we could only manage 1. We used to be able to field a few jins in Taekwando, but now there are fewer. And don't let me get started about swimming, and track; we use to have decent fieldings there as well. I am very much worried about the prospect that the Philippines cannot even get a single medal this time around. Each day, our hope of getting gold if not getting a single medal is just dwindling.
So am just now looking forward to the next Olympics. Maybe then, we can get our Basketball team in; and maybe more boxers.

After the dust has settled with the release of the new iPhone 3G, I've suddenly had a heated desire to purchase a new PC. Well, it's not going to be my personal one; but something for my kids. I've been struggling to decide between a PC (either from Dell or HP); or another Apply product the iMac.
When I saw the specs that the iMac boast, I was instantly captured, but that was only inner beauty. It also boast a design that is unmatched. It's a pretty cool design for a desktop computer, and I'm already being swung towards that direction. Now, this is after I've nearly killed my hunger for the iPhone. And I'm swinging again towards another Apple Product. Even my friend, who is an Apple fan; says that an iMac is pretty cool and will surely be worth it.
Either way, it's not for me; but for my kids. So am still in limbo trying to find a reason to invest in an iMac beauty.

Touch My iBody

Nowadays am just having a struggle deciding between 2 things. I Am just thinking of getting myself the new iPhone 3G; but I just realized that for me to get one, I have to sign up for a new 24 month plan with my carrier or any of the carriers offering the iPhone here in Australia. The reason for the hesitation is the fact that I just signed up for a 24 month contract 3 months ago, and it will cause me heaps to terminate that contract.
The reason for my hesitation is because I just bought a new iPod as well. So you see, I already a fairly new phone, and a decent one at that. And I also have a new iPod to booth. An iPhone will replace both in some respect. My struggle is with my desire to get into the iTouch thing. I tried out a friend's iPod Touch, and it was very cool. Having the capability to connect to the Internet via Wifi makes it a nice mini-computer. Plus, Apple technology is not perfect but cool nonetheless.
An iPhone or an iPod touch that is the question now. I can probably set aside my current iPod and keep it as a gift for one of my brothers this Christmas, so an iPod Touch would be a nice thing to have. But then again, I could also set aside my new Phone and give it to my mom this Christmas. Then an iPhone is within reach, but what to do with the contract?

Cellphone Worries

With the wide use of the cellphone nowadays, it's always interesting to note the hazards that may come with using it. I've picked up a few bits from news recently, but everything is really up for debate.

Here is my listing of cellphone worries:

Brain Cancer - I've been hearing this quite often and it's actually being researched. I think they've already proven that it could increase the risks of having brain cancer.

Exploding batteries - This is the same as batteries catching fire. Nokia was recently one of the mobile phone companies to have done a recall of batteries because of possibility of exploding or catching fire. There was one case though in the Philippines where one user's N73 nearly burned her house down.

Driving while texting - This is the same as driving while talking on the mobile. They say it's been linked to so many accidents. Don't know about this. I don't actual drive anyways. But I do text while watching TV, or talk on the phone while riding on the train.

Holdup / Robberies / Murders - It seems that the cellphone doesn't only attract the attention of onlookers when you're talking on the handsfree. It also attracts the attention of thieves. Many crimes in the Philippines (particularly, holdups and robberies) have been because of cellphone flaashing owners.

Well, there you have it. These are just some of the cellphone worries that I know. But some people might add to this list a dozen more like dropping the phone, getting smudged, getting wet, or getting scratched. Some people just threat their mobile phones like jewelry nowadays. But, hey who wouldn't if you pay top dollar for it.

Well, if we're talking about the train system here in Melbourne; then the answer is no. In fact, it's actually gotten worse this week. The transport minister has recently bragged about implementing changes in certain lines that have issues, and said that it would increase the capacity of the system. It's been said that an additional 105 new services have been added to existing timetables to boost weekday travel to and from the CBD.

Well, if you're one of us, who get on the train from Glen Huntly to the city in the mornings (between 7:45 - 9:00); this has actually gotten worse. For the first day of the week, the regular train that I take was late for more than 10 minutes. And as before it was quite full. And today, well, it was even bitter, the train was on time but much more full train usual. The experience was as pathetic as before, but even more because of the fact that people are such inconsiderate brats (especially the one with his bike in the front carriage). Now I thought, the front carriage was meant for people with special needs, so what's going on?

Putting that aside. I pity those, who normally take the next couple of trains after the 8:21 because they've been cancelled today. For some reason, I must have known that would happen cause I rushed to the station to catch the 8:21. Sometimes if I get held up at home, I would catch the 8:36 and I would still be alright to get to work before 9:30 am. Well, I guess you'll just have some more rants on MX today. But if you feel like it, you can leave your rants on this blog as well. I would appreciate a sharing of ideas on how to solve this commuters' crisis.

I would like to ask the transport minister, where is the improvement? And how did Connex project any improvements with these changes? Considering that the Frankston line was specified as one of the lines that will be boosted, I think it's been just a load of crap. They shouldn't really sensationalize any changes in the train system, if it won't affect the commuters in a positive way. I mean, it's just one failed campaign after another. First was the early bird thingy, which everyone knows would not work since the mornings would really be too cold for most people to rush to work. And this promised boosts that has become just so lame.

So what's next in their circus of public transport juggles? A Clown day on the train? Well, I suggest they think of better ways to improve the situation. With the increased popullation of Melbourne, the train system should be revamped to hold the capacity. I mean, maybe adding more running trains or using trains with larger capacities. And keep the changes hush or at least not promise any improvements that cannot be achieve. And I don't want to hear another lame excuse about this latest change: it's too early to feel the improvements. Yes, it is too early to feel improvements, but why are we feeling worst?

IT Work Rocks?

Nah, that's a big no for me. I once thought of IT work as something that could be fulfilling, but now am having doubts about the profession that I chose. Am just asking myself, is this really something that I want to do for the rest of my life (well, actually, just before I retire). Well, I know I already answered this question before, and I know that what I really love is to cook.
Am interested in doing cooking as a profession. It's just one of those things that keep me in check when my day ends. Come to think of it, I leave a double life. I am a tech worker by day, and my family's chef by night (and oh, on weekends too). I don't know, I just love to be in the kitchen and experiment with the recipes that I come across in TV and magazines.
This is the reason why I've always felt relaxed with shows on the Life Style Food (it's the other channel that I normally watch aside from SCI-FI). I just enjoy looking at the recipes that Gordon Ramsay whips up (aside from his foul mouth). I also preferred watching the American chefs such as Bobby Flay, Ming Tsai, and everyone on Iron Chef American. Oh, speaking of Iron Chef, I also loved to watch original Japanese series. I just loved the way that the chefs are put to the challenge to invent something sumptuous.
Well, am sort of an Iron Chef myself. I always scavenge through our kitchen to whip a new dish. I could never stick a specific recipe, and I always have to add something to make it my own.
Anyways, back to my frustration today. I mean, this life in IT is beginning to lose it's meaning for me. I've always love to be challenged and engage in high tech work, but recently I've been reduced to a researcher. Scavenging information about some system that they're meant to be retiring in the coming months. Am actually having doubts if this is even part of the role that I was contracted for. Anyways, it's very boring; and for someone of my experience (bragging aside), I think am meant to be doing something more.

Can't Wait for Tekken 6

Tekken has always been my fancy since I first layed eyes on Tekken 1 when I was in Uni. With now 8 installments (including the much loved Tekken Tag Tournament, and Tekken DR which was Tekken 5 upgrade). It has been a fighting game to behold. It has become one of the gems of Namco Bandai (which also holds the cards of Soul Caliber, and other great games).
The current installment which is Tekken 6 has already been out for a while in Arcade, but I am yet to see action. I am just craving to get my hands on it, and try out the new characters, such as Bob, and Leo. Don't get me wrong, I still play Tekken DR; but I guess am just saturated by it.
Anyways, I haven't seen any Tekken 6 arcade machines around the place where I usually play Tekken. I believe the only arcade machines that are within reach are at least 30 minutes by train from where I am, and they're probably packed anyways.
So here's something on my wishlist. I wish that they would have the Tekken 6 arcade version in the place where I usually play. And oh another thing, I wish that the rumors flying around about Tekken 6 heading for multiple platforms would be true. I'd hate to spend $700 just to be able to buy a PS3 and Tekken 6. I just bought a Wii for the kids; and off course myself.

My Weekend

Time to get some rest now. At long last, the weekend has come. It's really been a long work week, and I was really getting stressed all week long. At least another weekend will surely refresh me. And plus, I get to spend some time with my family: the wife and the kids.
Oh, I can't wait for the next long weekend. It starts on the 25th of April to commemorate ANZAC day. That's gonna be one of the few long weekends that we will be having. You see there's fewer holidays here in Australia, so you really have to make the most of holidays when they come.

World Crisis: My views.

I've been reading the news lately, and the most prominent issues in the world today are the following:

The Chinese crackdown in Tibet. It's been a while, but the issue has now escalated to harassment and protests during the torch tour. With the recent row happening in Paris. I think that the next leg is here in Australia. I've seen mixed comments and views around in almost every media (even in the free afternoon news paper that I get on the train service). My view point is this, China has a right to keep the peace within it's borders, and the world has the right to react to the violent crack down. Considering that, I don't think that international action should be set against China that will compromise the Beijing Olympics. The Olympics is a world exercise for peace, and it should not be compromise by views against a governmental right to keep the peace. Although I agree with most negative comments about the violent crack down, I don't agree with compromising the exercise of world peace.

Another prominent issue in the world is the looming food crisis. Poverty stricken countries have been hit hard by the increase in prices of food commodities. This has been attributed to the economic problems in the US, and the highs in world oil prices. My home country the Philippines, has been hit hard by this; and the government is struggling to keep things in check. Other governments have already been hit by riots and erupting violence related to increasing hunger. My view on this is that I think it's damn time that we consider alternatives to our fuel sources. With almost every thing affected by the price of oil; and almost every country not spared by the rising prices. Even here in Australia, we've felt prices rising and our purchasing power going down. My point is that we should start looking into alternative sources of energy that would not have an adverse effect on the prices of food commodities. After all, food is fuel for our bodies, and we are much more important than our cars or appliances. I know that it's been said a million times int he past years, but again, we should act now.

Politics in the Philippines, hmmm...What can I say? I can't really keep away from monitoring the events in the Philippines, and politics still makes more noise than anything else. (except maybe for the return of Gabby Concepcion to the showbiz fold, and the airing of Brian Gorell.). I mean, can't these politicians see the bigger picture? My fellow Filipinos are hungry, and these politicians are still looking into wasting time and the governments money on discussions about cancelled contracts or agreements made with other countries five years ago. It's just pathetic how their focus is so away from the current situation. They were elected to seek to better the welfare of their constituents, and not to just advance their political ambitions (I think I said that before). I mean, it's not that they should ignore the corruption; but they should look at the wider context now, and seek to resolve the current issues. I know that corruption affects the people in the long run, but it's been around; and governments trying to fight against it have not done well in the last 2 decades. See the picture, and the picture is that the Filipinos need help. Cause a government free of corruption now will be of no use if the country falls into disarray because of hunger and poverty.

I've wished for 3 things.

The first one is "I wish for more happy times with my family and friends". It seems nowadays am just a bit too busy with work, and I probably need more time with my family to be relaxed a bit. My baby can attest to that.
The second one is "I wish for continued blessings from God and a positive outlook in life". I really have to be satisfied with I got, and I am always thankful for all the blessings that I got. But more blessings is never too much is what I would say.

Have some more time on my hands, it's Easter Monday Holiday here in Australia. We don't normally have this day as a holiday in Manila unless it's declared by the President. But it here it's a very good break indeed. Had a busy Easter Sunday preparing dinner for some friends. I prepared some unusual dishes from the recipe books in my head.
We had roasted pork shoulder, which was done in a similar way to lechon. We also had my updated version of beef nilaga. I called it my Beef Nilaga ala Melbourne. I've already done some experiments back then with my nilaga inspired by dishes that we've tried in a seafood restaurant.
Oh well, Easter Monday is another day of rest but we'll probably go out for some fresh air.

I've been living in the Philippines for nearly all of my life, and have been used to the fact that the most part of the Holy Week (Christian remembrance of Jesus Christ's Passion, Death and Ressurection) is always a public holiday in the Philippines. Well, it is a holiday in most predominantly Christian countries.
Now that I moved here in Melbourne - Australia, I've realized that there also a couple of Public Holidays declared for the Holy Week. Here, Good Friday and Easter Monday (the Monday after Easter Sunday) are both Public Holidays. It is quite good for me since I am a Roman Catholic, and it gives me time to reflect.
But then I read this article on Mx the other day about a minister wanting to scrap out the Good Friday from the list of Public Holidays here. At first I was a bit upset with his remarks about Good Friday losing it's meaning, but then I've realized that he had some points.
To think of it, not everyone in this country are Christian, so they would just threat Good Friday as another ordinary public holiday for picknicks, outings, and a day on the barbie. And it is only us Christians, who take a time to use the holydays as our time to reflect on our Faith. The minister on the article's point was more of a political, rather than a cultural tone.
Then again, I thought that Christmas was also a Christian holiday, but then even in the US it is a Public Holiday. So his point has both good and bad points.

Some Eagles At Last...

Finally, what I thought could not happen has now materialize. I was really hoping that at least one Ateneo Blue Eagle would land on my favorite PBA Team's nest. Finally has traded long time star point with not just one Eagle, but a couple. And their not just any Blue Eagles, they were King Eagles during their last year in the UAAP collegiate basketball scene.
Tenorio, Fonacier join Aces Finally, LA Tenorio, the star point guard of his time and previously heir apparent to another King Eagle Olsen Racela of Magnolia has landed. He now fills the void for the Alaska Aces, the void that I thought was a key missing component for any of their championship campaigns. Alaska has not had any pure point guard in their ranks, and I think LA being a star point guard for at least 3 years in Ateneo, and backup to Olsen will now offer more room for Willie Miller to do what he does best.
The other King Eagle was Larry Fonacier. Although he was not able to play his last year with the Blue Eagles because of an ACL injury, he surprised everyone in his rookie year in the PBA when he bagged the ROY award. Being part of Red Bull back then along side fellow Eagles Villanueva and Bugia (now that was a dream come true); he was just killing it in the three point range. I was actually surprised when he traded to Magnolia last year, but I guess that was to come when Villanueva was also shipped to Magnolia. But this is even more of a surprise now since Fonacier is one of the most dominant shooters out there.
Well, this could only be good news for the Aces, because that means more range for them, and maybe more execution of plays.

Oh well, I knew it was gonna be another bad luck day with public transport. It was actually quite cool today, a first in a 10-day string of very warm days (about 32+, one even getting to 40+). It should be enough to light a smile on my face, but not even that could prepare me or ease me to another train delay.
Actually, not even my new tech-toy could pamper me from the head aches that I always get with train services here in our area. It's either late, or it's not coming at all. The bad thing about is that you always try to come just in time to catch the train, but it never does come on time. The worse time that I had to wait for a train was for more than 20 minutes (I should have taken the tram then???).
It's causing me headaches because I always want to be in the office before 9 am. It's a consolation though that I had not had problems during the warm days. That would have been worst for me.

I want my Bluetooth

For the past couple of weeks now, I've been in constant hunt for an ideal headset to match my Nokia Express Music phone. I was unlucky enough to buy one without a good headset to come with it. I thought just a few post back that I wasn't better off with the public transport issues hounding me here in Melbourne. I just heard in the news today that another transport strike looms its way for Metro Manila commuters. I'd be happy with delays anyday, than no transport at all.
Metro Manila is home to several millions of people, and majority of them don't own cars; so communiting is a must. Most people in Metro Manila travel nearly everyday for work, school, and even just leisure. It is also frequented by tourist (although I would expect them to have travel arrangements).
I've had my fair share of experiences with Public Transport stoppages in the past, and believe me it's nothing but inconvenience. I mean, if you don't have to be somewhere, then you shouldn't even try to leave your home. Many commuters get stranded at this time. Some activists groups take this time as an opportunity to cause noise in the streets, since it's abound with people either confused by the situation or just darn numb the crisis.
Well, it's good to hear that the government is really trying to sort things out, but this is one thing that they should always stir away from. The most inconvenient about this is that the strike is not brought about by a demand for increase in fare, but a dispute over traffic violation ticketing system. I mean everyone expects to be caught once and awhile, and they wish thee ticketing system to be done in a unified manner. How dumb is that?

It's been a while since we've experienced several holidays. When we were in the Philippines, holidays seemed to be abound. It was pretty much a holiday for every three weeks.
Here in Melbourne, Australia; it seems that holidays come by so slowly. I'm thinking there aren't enough. Well, I'll probably have to get use to this since it's gonna be our home for a while. Am not really complaining about not having too many holidays or long weekends like this. Am just happy to be here. Besides, work isn't too hard, and I am bit more relaxed here compared to when I was in the Manila. I was already stressed at work, I was also more stressed with public transport there. M-16 rifles, and lots more. Well, that was when I was young; and I never did get to use those things. But am still fond of those things.

A Political Circus

I was just viewing the Philippine Daily Inquirer today (online), and found it interesting and disgusting at the same that politics in the home country has turned into a circus again. I have monitoring these news articles on the debunked NBN deal, and how it has become a the new ring for Senators to bring in their clown acts.
I thought that was the farthest that it would go, since it has been going on for forever now. When I left the Philippines just before Christmas, it was the hot topic and it is still now. I am just dismayed by the fact that these elected officials have become mere circus clowns that don't really amuse the people. I mean, if they just stop doing all these Senate inquiries and focus on making laws that matter to the people, then we would have been super power by now (a little bit exaggerated, but not impossible). And their main excuse for such inquiries is to bring out the truth. The truth about what? That our politicians are corrupt and greedy, everyone knows that? Or do they just want to prove that someone else is more corrupt than they are.
This morning I read on PDIonline that they are asking for an investigation on the Spratlys agreement that the Philippines signed with China and Vietnam, which happened to be 4 years ago. Drilon (Franklin) has raised the bar for clown hood in politics. He is no longer in servitude, but he still manages to put on that white makeup and cause a stir in the already entangled political scene. Now, the Senate wants to tie the Spratly's agreement to the NBN deal problem. I just want to know when this will stop, maybe when all of these clowns have seized to hold power. I'd say bring in the new clowns ( a fresh batch of politicians, who can probably entertain us). If I were the President, I'd declare martial law now, and it would probably better the political climate.
It is ridiculous that everything boils down to power grabbing and the urge to greedy. These politicians keep saying that it is for the interests of the people. I'd ask which people? Maybe they should ask the people first if they want this circus to go on.
I really pity Madam President for being in the middle of all this. I mean, she strives to do what is best for the country (or what she perceives to be best), but she always gets this negative attraction. When will we hear anyone thank the President for her achievements? Yes, it can't be denied that she has had achievements. She should be given credit for those. I just hope that she doesn't get dipped in deeper into this circus. Can someone just get rid of these clowns if not shut them up?

I would just like to share my thoughts on the upcoming fight of the Philippines' national treasure Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao. He is up against a very strong opponent in Juan Manuel Marquez. This is already their second match, and the first one was an exciting one but ended up in even score cards.
I would like to impart some wisdom to our dear old Pacman. He has been in the spotlight lately not just for the upcoming fight, but with some controversy. Well, that's life of a celebrity in the Philippines for you. You always get attention for the wrong reasons. Pacman should stay his course, and focus on the match. I just wish that he humbles himself more and not be carried away by this not so new popularity that he has garnered.
I've said this in the past that a celebrity is only celebrated for their success, and woed for any mistakes or failures. Pacman has had failures in the past as a boxer, but I've seen him bounce back. I just want him to continue to shine as a boxer and nothing else. I believe that's where he is good at. Showbusiness and politics, he should leave those alone. They would either corrupt him or destroy him altogether.
The upcoming fight of Pacman should elevate him more, but he should exercise caution, and show humility in what ever is the outcome. I believe in Pacman, and I believe he can achieve even more.

Sunshine Again at the start of a new season.

Summer is officially over here in Melbourne Australia. It's been a bit of a change for my family and me, since we came from the Philippines. December to Feb is usually the cooler months in Manila, but here in Australia it's been a scorching summer. We even had a 42 degrees New Year's eve. It was the hottest that we've ever experience. The hottest for me, didn't even experience that when I was in Israel. That was really a first cause aside from the fact that we had a quite New Year's eve (and Christmas Eve by the way), we also had the hottest day/night ever.
Well, we did have a couple of really cool weeks that just passed. So it is autumn here now, but it's been a warm reception for the start of the season. It was a warmer weekend, and today it's even hotter. At least is very far from the 42 that was New Year's eve, and we probably won't see another of those until the next December.
I just hope we ease in into the coming winter, it's my family's first. I think it would be my 3rd here in Melbourne.

I've always been lucky so far not be affected by any major illness or other things that would prevent me from doing work or being with my love ones. The Start of My Work Day...

The moment I step out of our door, I felt a cool breeze. Well it was actually cool breeze since it was a top of 21 today in Melbourne, and the dark clouds were just hovering overhead. But anyways, I felt something different about this day.
When I got to the train station, I realized that I finally caught up with the right train - the one that runs express pass 3 major stations. So getting to work was a cool quick ride. Then in the coffee shop, I got my coffee pretty quickly. Quicker than usual, I think.
Then the fun began when I stepped into the office. My boss was on the phone because of a severity 1 issue (the highest priority issue that we could ever get, and it meant that we dropped everything else, except for another severity 1). It's been very quite for the pass few days (or weeks for that matter), and it's been nearly a year since the last severity 1 that we had to deal with. I was also the one who dealt with it during a holiday by the way.
Anyways, moving forward. I had to rush to the client's office to investigate or resolve the problem. I found what the problem was, and had to rush back again to our office to investigate further and resolve the issue. Oh by the way, I had to literally run to the client's office for this.
So that was the first thing I had to do, even before I could finish my coffee. When I got to the office, a mother in distress struck me because her son was stuck on the rotating doors of our building. He was really pinned to the door, and couldn't get out. Someone managed to stop the rotating doors from moving further, but he still couldn't get free. It took 3 men in suits and myself to push the doors backwards, and get the child free. I was actually worried for the poor little fellow. I thought he was about my son’s age, and he was really shaken up badly. He was actually limping a little, but I think he would be all right after a while. Anyways, I hope there wouldn't be any psychological trauma.
Yes, that was the start of my workday. I thought I was a hero on two fronts; one for the little boy, who got stuck on the rotating doors; and the other for our client. I eventually found the cause of the problem and suggested a temporary resolution. So at least it made my day already, and I'm pleased.

I love to cook different dishes. Experimenting my own menu and let my family have a taste with it. Anyway I cooked just for them and I am the in charge in the kitchen. Sometimes I came to point of thinking to give up my job and start a business that involves cooking but of course I knew it's not easy to plod through. I won't take the risks with the security of my family. I need to have a perfect plan and a perfect timing as well and I don't know when it is. For now, I will dedicate my cooking passion to my wife and kids. They are so picky with the food they eat and I find it hard to please them with my cooking sometimes.

Just another day...

I am just a bit out of it today. I just began my day, and doing stuff that aren't really my problem or issue. Am currently dealing with this DBA, who thinks he knows better. But I think he doesn't have a damn clue about what he is doing. I mean he is just a bit abbrassive in the way that he deals with me.
I've already proven that the issue is not with what I am supporting, and he still keeps asking why he should be doing stuff for this. I just hate this guys guts. Well, I've heard bad impressions about him from other people. It has just unmade my day today, and to think that it's only the start of my day. I hope I don't have to deal with him anymore.
Well I guess this is just another day at the office for. I will get to deal with difficult people, and this guys just one of them.
